ULTRASOUND EXAMINATION OF THE ABDOMEN

ULTRASOUND EXAMINATION OF THE ABDOMEN

CLINICAL DATA:      Pain.

FINDINGS:             The liver is mildly enlarged measuring 15.9 cm.  It shows increased echogenicity.  The evaluation is rather limited due to overlying bowel gas.

The patient had cholecystectomy in the past.  Common bile duct measures 4 mm.  There is no dilatation of intrahepatic biliary ducts.

Spleen, pancreas, and abdominal aorta are unremarkable.

Right kidney measures 11.4 x 5 x 5.9 cm and left kidney measures 11.3 x 5.2 x 4.7 cm.  There is no evidence of renal calculus, focal mass, or hydronephrosis.

IMPRESSION:
1.                   Status post cholecystectomy.  There is no dilatation of intra or extrahepatic biliary ducts.
2.                   Mildly enlarged, hyperechoic liver probably due to fatty infiltration.  Other possibilities cannot be completely excluded.

Thank you for the referral.
