ULTRASOUND EXAMINATION OF THE ABDOMEN

ULTRASOUND EXAMINATION OF THE ABDOMEN

CLINICAL DATA:            Elevated LFT.

FINDINGS:                Special attention was paid to the liver.  There is mild hepatomegaly measuring about 16 cm.  The liver shows increased echogenicity.  There is no focal mass noted.

There is no ascites.

Spleen is normal in size and echotexture.  The gallbladder is normal without any evidence of a calculus or wall thickening.  Common bile duct measures 4 mm.  There is no dilatation of intrahepatic biliary ducts.

Pancreas is normal without any evidence of focal mass.

Right kidney measures 12.6 x 5.8 x 5.8 cm and left kidney measures 12.3 x 6.1 x 5.8 cm.  There is no evidence of renal calculus, focal mass, or hydronephrosis.

Abdominal aorta is unremarkable.  There is no abdominal aortic aneurysm.

IMPRESSION:        Mild hepatomegaly.  Hyperechoic liver most probably related to diffuse fatty infiltration.  Other possibilities cannot be completely excluded.

Thank you for the referral.
