ULTRASOUND EXAMINATION OF THE ABDOMEN

CLINICAL HISTORY:       Rule out umbilical hernia.

FINDINGS:             There is a small about 2 cm x 1.6 cm umbilical hernia.

There is hepatomegaly and the liver measures about 18.8 cm.  It shows increased echogenicity.  There is no focal hepatic mass noted.

The spleen is normal in size and echotexture.

There is no ascites.

The gallbladder is normal without any evidence of a calculus, wall thickening, or pericholecystic fluid collection.

Common bile duct measures 3 mm.  There is no dilatation of intrahepatic biliary ducts.

Pancreas is normal without any evidence of a focal mass.  There is no abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Right kidney measures 13 x 6.1 x 5. 4 cm and left kidney measures 12.6 x 6.1 x 5.7 cm.  There is no evidence of renal calculus, focal renal mass, or hydronephrosis.

IMPRESSION:
1.                   A small about 2 cm umbilical hernia.
2.                   Enlarged, hyperechoic liver most probably due to diffuse fatty infiltration.  Although, possibilities cannot be completely excluded.
