BILATERAL DIGITAL SCREENING MAMMOGRAM WITH CAD EVALUATION
INDICATION FOR STUDY: Prior mammogram from 06/07/2009 along with ultrasound of the breast done on July of 2009. Previous biopsy, which the patient reported
of the left breast and would recommend reference to the prior examination
reports and pathology reports. Patient
indicated that family history of breast cancer with aunt. No present palpable mass or symptoms.
FINDINGS: CC and MLO views of each breast
were obtained along with CAD evaluation on the digital mammogram machine and
the CAD evaluation was reviewed. The
examination was compared to the prior study from 06/07/2009. There is continued evidence of dense
glandular tissue bilaterally limiting the sensitivity of mammography. There is evidence of stereotactic biopsy of
the left breast with clip in the lower inner aspect. There are benign calcifications noted
bilaterally. There is no significant new
area of suspicious cluster of microcalcifications, architectural distortion, skin
thickening, or nipple retraction bilaterally.
If there is any further concern, ultrasound, MRI examination, further
evaluation, or surgical consult may be considered. If there is no further concern, would
recommend routine annual mammographic examination.
BI-RADS
Clinical Assessment Category 2: Benign
finding.
10-15% of the cancers are not
identified by mammography. This usually occurs when a mass is of the same
radiographic density as the surrounding breast tissue, emphasizing the
importance of breast self-examination (BSE) and physical examination. A normal
mammogram should not delay biopsy if a suspicious mass or abnormal findings are
present upon physical examination.
The patient will receive a
summary of the written mammography report.
