MRI EXAMINATION OF THE LUMBAR SPINE WITHOUT CONTRAST

MRI EXAMINATION OF THE LUMBAR SPINE WITHOUT CONTRAST

INDICATION FOR STUDY:         Lumbar stenosis.  Pain.

FINDINGS:               Sagittal T1 and T2 and axial T1 and T2 weighted images were obtained on the Open MRI at Fort Pierce.  There is desiccation of the L4-L5 disc with slight offset of few millimeters with anterolisthesis of L4.  The remainder of the disc appeared well hydrated.  The conus and nerve roots within the thecal sac show no gross abnormality.

At the L4-L5 level, there is mild disc bulge along with ligament flavum hypertrophy and slight degenerative changes causing moderate central canal to severe central canal stenosis.  There is no significant neuroforaminal narrowing.  The remainder of the lumbar levels show no significant disc herniation, central canal stenosis, or neuroforaminal narrowing.

IMPRESSION:         Moderate-to-slightly-severe central canal stenosis at L4-L5 as discussed.
