MRI EXAMINATION OF THE
CERVICAL SPINE WITHOUT CONTRAST
INDICATION FOR
STUDY: 723.1 and 722.4, MVA.
FINDINGS: Sagittal T1 and T2 and axial
T2 gradient echo images were obtained on the Open MRI at Fort Pierce. The vertebral bodies appear in relatively
good alignment. The cord shows no
significant signal abnormality.
At the levels of
C2-C3 and C3-C4, there is no significant disc herniation, central canal
stenosis, or neuroforaminal narrowing.
At the level of
C4-C5, there is slight indentation on the anterior thecal sac, but no
significant central canal stenosis or neuroforaminal narrowing.
At the level of
C5-C6, there is a diffuse disc herniation with indentation on the anterior
thecal sac. There is no significant
central canal stenosis or neuroforaminal narrowing.
At the level of
C6-C7, there is a central disc herniation with indentation on the anterior
thecal sac, but no significant central canal stenosis or neuroforaminal
narrowing.
At the level of
C7-T1, there is no significant disc herniation, central canal stenosis, or
neuroforaminal narrowing. Incidentally
noted are changes, which appear to represent on the right side at the T1-T2
level a cystic area in the neuroforaminal region just lateral of the opening in
the neuroforamina. The significance is
somewhat uncertain. If there is any
further concern, would recommend dedicated evaluation of the thoracic spine as
needed. This was incidentally seen on
the sagittal images and is seen on image 11 of series 3 and series 2.
Thank you for the referral.
