MRA EVALUATION OF THE CAROTID ARTERIES OF THE NECK WITHOUT CONTRAST WITH RECONSTRUCTIVE IMAGES

MRA EVALUATION OF THE CAROTID ARTERIES OF THE NECK WITHOUT CONTRAST WITH RECONSTRUCTIVE IMAGES

INDICATION FOR STUDY:  Disequilibrium.  Patient had refused I.V. contrast, poor venous access.

FINDINGS:  Time-of-flight images and source images were reviewed.  Would recommend reference to the patient’s MRI of the head report.  The source images and reconstructive images were reviewed.  There is tortuosity of the proximal internal carotid arteries at their origin, but no significant change to suggest significant stenosis or occlusion in the common carotid arteries or internal carotid arteries visualized.  The vertebral arteries are patent.  If there is any further concern, correlation with carotid ultrasound would be recommended given the slight tortuosity of the internal carotid arteries at the proximal extent.  Contrast evaluation could not be performed.

IMPRESSION:  No significant stenosis or occlusion in the proximal internal carotid arteries or carotid bulb regions bilaterally.  Slight tortuosity in the proximal internal carotid arteries.  Would recommend clinical correlation or correlation with carotid ultrasound examination as clinically necessary.

Thank you for the referral.
