CHEST X-RAY, PA AND LATERAL VIEWS - 21

CHEST X-RAY, PA AND LATERAL VIEWS

INDICATION FOR STUDY:           Left chest pain.

FINDINGS:               An examination of the chest shows moderate-to-severe chronic findings.  There is a vague area of density seen in the right subapex with an apparent soft tissue density lying just inferior to the posterior margin of the right fifth rib.  Also, there is a vague area of density seen overlying the posterior aspect of the right eighth rib as well.

A curvilinear area is seen filling the right upper lung field and which may represent an emphysematous bleb, as this appears to be somewhat void of pulmonary markings.

There is interstitial and parenchymal pulmonary scarring seen bilaterally.  Also noted is an area of density in the medial aspect of the right apex.

Heart size and contour is normal.  A lateral chest radiograph shows a clear retrocardiac space.  The posterior sulcus is not well seen.

IMPRESSION:          Chronic pulmonary findings as described with soft tissue densities questioned in the right lung field.  A chest CAT scan both without and with intravenous contrast enhancement is recommended for further evaluation of this patient.

Thank you for the referral.
