CHEST X-RAY, PA AND LATERAL VIEWS - 20

CHEST X-RAY, PA AND LATERAL VIEWS

INDICATION FOR STUDY:           Acute dyspnea.

FINDINGS:               An examination of the chest shows the lungs to be hyperlucent.  There does not appear to be any significant flattening of the hemidiaphragms though the hyperlucency of the lungs would be consistent with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Heart size and contour is normal.  The patient has had a previous median sternotomy.  There are surgical clips seen in both the anterior and middle mediastinum.

Hemidiaphragms as noted are not particularly flattened.  Costophrenic angles are clear.

A lateral chest radiograph shows a clear retrocardiac space.  The posterior sulcus is not well seen.

IMPRESSION:
1.                   Previous median sternotomy.
2.                   Hyperlucency of the lungs.
3.                   No active or acute cardiopulmonary process is identified.

Thank you for the referral.
